Simply Grit & Grace Home

Creating cozy spaces filled with light, warmth, and grace

I am so glad you’re here. My name is Vanessa Gordon-Grundy, please follow along as I share my passion for home decor and interior design. My goal is to inspire others to design spaces that allow their story to be told, and one simple belief: your home doesn’t have to be big, fancy, or perfect to be beautiful.

Through this blog, I’ll share tips, ideas, and inspiration to help you transform your home into a space that truly reflects who you are. Let’s embrace the beauty of simple, cozy design and make every corner of your home a place you love.

This isn’t just about how your home looks, it’s about how it feels.

  • The holidays are my favorite time of year, a season that invites joy, warmth, and a little bit of magic into our homes. There is something so special about the glow and twinkle of the soft lights, the scents of cinnamon and candles in the air, and the feeling of nostalgia and makes this time so meaningful.

As the season approaches, I find myself excited to create simple and cozy spaces, that are full of love and joy. Adding simple touches that truly feel like magic make my heart so happy.

This year, I encourage you to lean into what feels right for you and your family. Whether it be putting up the tree(s) on November 1st, after Thanksgiving, or right before Christmas, I am cheering you on to decorate your space to reflect exactly who you are! Display those decorations that have meaning, and hold special memories, and sprinkle in a few fresh touches that make your home sparkle with light and grace. Because the magic of the season isn’t really how your home looks at all, it’s how it feels.

    Start with Warmth and Light

There is just something so special, joyful, and magical with the glow of soft lighting during the holidays. Layer your lighting: candles on the table, fairy lights intertwined in your garland on the mantle, and lamps with warm bulbs.

      Add Simple and Natural Touches

There are so many ways to incorporate nature in your home this tome of year. Try adding pinecones, greenery, dried oranges and cranberries to your decor. A simple vase with winter branches can add so much to your space, without making it feel overwhelming.

      Make it Personal

Allow your decor to tell your story. Display the homemade ornaments, and pictures. Scatter family photos, or keepsakes passed down through generations. Mix in the old and the new that allow guests to feel at home the moment they are in your space.

      Creat Cozy Corners

Creating coziness can be so simple, drape your favorite fuzzy throw on a chair or in a cute basket near the couch to create moments of comfort throughout your home. A reading nook by the window to grab a glimpse of nature is also a wonderful way to invite rest and relaxation into your space. This is often what we crave most during this time of year, and is such a lovely way to slow down and rest.

      Embrace Imperfection

This is one I am still learning! Sometimes the ornaments are not place in just the right spot, and the tree is not perfectly positioned, and that’s okay. The heartbeat of the holidays is not about perfection at all, it is about presence.

I invite you to turn on the twinkle lights, pour yourself a cup of coffee to tea, and let your heart lead the way as you embrace the magic of the season.

    1. For me, home has always been so much more than a place to live, it’s where light, warmth, and comfort come together and create something truly special. My love for interior design and home decor began long before I even realized it. As a little girl, I love spending time with my grandmothers, taking in all the ways their homes felt cozy, welcoming, and full of love.

My Yia Yia had a gift for creating beauty in the simplest of ways. Every item in her home had a purpose, a story, and a place. She cared deeply for the things she owned, and worked so hard for them all. She arranged her home with intention, love, and care to make others feel included and at ease. Her home was more than beautifully decorated, it was safe. It was a space that radiated grace, warmth, and belonging.

As I grew older, I found myself living in many different kinds of spaces, from a small one bedroom apartments to my own home. No matter where I was, I discovered that I could create beauty with what I had. Through many life circumstances, challenges, transitions, and new beginnings, I learned that home is not about perfection, it’s about heart. It is about the grit to keep going, persevere, and the grace to find the simple moments and joy along the way.

That’s how Simply Grit and Grace Home was born, from a love of creating spaces that bring, joy, light, peace, and love to others. My hope is inspire you to see the beauty all around you, exactly right where you are. Trusting yourself to create a home you love and that truly feels like you! Because no matter the size of your space, or the stage of your life, you can make it beautiful with grit and grace.
